Hi all,

I check in to this and many other sites daily to see what's going on. Over time I have seen that, in most cases, people are sharing screenshots and talking about what they do in flight simulator. Well it dawned on me that no one actually gets to fly together from what I have gathered. So this brings me to my point... as a real pilot (in training) I get a huge buzz from flying; this includes those challenging days with the wind doing its thing and a substantial level of traffic in the sky. So I thought to my self "wouldn't it be really cool to really pump up the traffic load in VATSIM" (hoping you've all heard of it), giving not only the pilots a great experience but also the 'real" air traffic controllers a nice workout too. The thing with VATSIM is that you can not really know what you are doing, which is where we all start, and still be able to fly with other virtual pilots. If you are training real world procedures then by all means use them as this can increase the level of realism and increase one's flying/communication skills thus creating alert pilots with a high standard of airmanship. So, what do you all think guys and gals?? whether you have fsx or fs2004 it doesn't make a hek of alot of difference. VATSIM New Zealand has a website to scour and even has a training syllabus for using VATSIM. I have recently been more involved with Online flying in the sim and just love it. I am happy to help those who want to get started by any practical means. To get started read on....

1) get FSINN or SQUAWKBOX software to link you with the online community to use your radio in real time in the sim. you can fly VFR or IFR and also file a flight plan in real time with VATSIM!

2) go to http://www.vatnz.net/cms/index.php to have a look and chat to people.

3) Go get your self a basic microphone because really that's all you need, unless you're like me and want the rest of the gear to reduce the stress while flying.\

4) Get VATSPY or Dolomynum. Software to see who is actually online in VATSIM airspace, you can see realtime who is flying where in the world including the great GODZONE.

VATSIM has all the gear, it has tips for flying, link you to real world charts to follow, have weekly flying activities online, it has its own radio frequencies to use for uncontrolled areas and controlled areas.
This is really great when you get into it and start flying, it really raises the bar for people who want more than fly around on their own.

Any questions comments bring them in im happy to read them and offer help to the best of my ability. Come on lets do it, you'll love it i'm sure.

Merry Christmas

Kelvin

Thanks for your comment Mark. yeah, I am training doing my PPL and so this is a great way to carry out procedures in practice for real world operations. I am getting on more and more now. Am going to have a holiday for a week then back into it.
