Yep - reddit ... and digested ... *but* it didn't tell me what exactly I may need to back up. It's not entirely clear from the manual what textures it overwrites (and where they are).

You shouldn't need to back up anything- The installer will do it for you. If however, you are reallllly paranoid about this kinda thing then: In Scenery\Global\Texture there are three files which can backed up (After install you can switch them back on with the VLC config tool included). They are veg_Palm1.dds; veg_tropical1.dds, veg_tropical2.dds

Just a note- The state of these files will change after install and depending on what options you choose in the config tool so if you want to extra-back them up manually, do it before install. Othewise, those files should be left alone to ensure everything works properly (i.e. you don't back up the wrong textures or overwrite VLC textures)

Congratulations on the release New_Zealand_etc.gif Great stuff!

I have two versions of FSX (one SP2 the other Acceleration) on one physical drive - separate partitions - however only one fsx.cfg was created! The registry sees the Acceleration install path (most recently installed) but i want to install VLC on both versions. Is there a simple way to do this? (In building my new PC i simply transferred the WD 'raptor HDD which already had FSX SP2 installed, from my old PC)

Secondly, because i have issues on the SP2 version arising from a previous install of UT (which I can not now uninstall and prevents Orbix traffic from running), I am thinking of reinstalling SP2 but am loathe to do that because of all the add on aircraft I have previously installed. If I simply backup the SimObjects\Aircraft and main Gauges and Effects folders will that be all I need to do to enable me to do a clean install avec VLC & Orbix free traffic? How do I preserve all the add-ons?

Any help much appreciated

Yes, as Tim said there is really nothing to back-up, the installer takes care of that. It will even save your pre-VLC scenery.cfg before it adds the scenery, but of course this isn't really a long-term backup, it is just there in case there is an issue with the Library, "just in case..."

So all you need to do to return it to default is run the VLC Configuration tool, unselect the autogen textures, and press the 'install' button.

One of the benefits of a local server -- in New Zealand we are used to getting addons from the other side of the world, which has a bigger effect on download speed than you'd think. Of course, the opposite is true -- the further away from NZ you live, the slower your download.

Yep - you've done a good job of the download server - as I said above 90 second download for me on my work network (which as a big internet pipe)
