I suspect the vast majority of NZFF'ers here have a collection of locally produced NZ payware sceneries (VLC/Godzone/FS Creations etc.) and a fair few may be tempted to go down the ORBX/NZSI route.

There'll inevitably be incompatibilities and some tweaking will be required. How do we report problems without ruffling feathers? What's the protocol here?

For the record, I have NZSI, so can post in the ORBX [paid] support forums and I need to be careful I don't overstep the rules there as well winkyy.gif

A typical query could be (and this is a genuine one):

1) I have NZSI and RealNZ Nelson, but prefer to use RealNZ Nelson whilst keeping NZSI active.
2) Which files should I be looking at disabling?
3) Any layer re-ordering necessary?

If doing everything as suggested *here* (with respect to the above) and there are still problems - is it OK to then post the problem at ORBX?

I certainly want to support our local talent - and will continue to religiously buy whatever becomes available - but I'd like to be able to dovetail NZSI if possible.

Any pointers/help graciously received!

P.S. As a matter of interest .... the VLC supporter GIF link in my signature has just gone dead ... is this significant in any way??

It would make more sense to post any issues in the appropriate forum here -- in my case, the Real NZ/Godzone support forum. Orbx have made it clear that they won't deal with compatibility issues on their forum. Which suits me fine, as I'd rather put together any fixes myself. This will happen -- at the moment I have a huge list of issues to deal with, not least of which is the strange autogen buildings well outside the South Island. The standard solution is to switch off FTX SI when flying in the North Island, and I wouldn't expect any other advice from Orbx. Orbx made a selling point of the fact that you can fly between Australia and the South Island without having to switch anything, but this only really works if you have both FTX areas. It doesn't extend to the North Island, and doesn't extend to any third party scenery within the South Island.

I do have FTX SI installed to deal with compatibility issues. I will put simple fixes on NZFF as they appear, but some will need a bit more work. Real NZ Nelson, for instance, will get a patch at some stage, but in the meantime I've already put some basic info on the forum. Any alterations which come from anyone else, or your own experimentation, are at your own risk.

Existing solutions from Orbx are only partial fixes for simple airports -- they don't allow for putting the airport elevation back where it belongs. They have changed the elevation for most of the airfields and airports, which is a real nuisance. One of the strengths of VLC is the way that the 'official' airport elevations were retained, and the mesh was adjusted to match. This means that any custom airports can share compatibility with the default FSX and VLC, and you don't get any surprises if you are using a chart.

Thanks Robin! I have all of your scenery and for years have considered you the most talented scenery designer I have come across. I use VLC as my NZ base. I also have all the Orbix Australian offerings. I have purchased the Orbix South Island package but have decided to hang off installing it until your work is done, I would hate to make a change and loose your wonderful South Island airports. So I guess there is no point to this post other than I'm so pleased to see you are working on providing compatibility, which then I hope allows you to reach a massive new user base.

Cheers,
Mark

I've added a list of files which can be disabled if using VLC and Orbx SI to the FAQ portion of the website as well- I can add to this as other issues come up.

The only potential issue is that one of the default FSX tile extents covers portions of the Nth and Sth Islands which means you will need to make a choice- No VLC for part of the Nth Island when using NZSI or a few duplicate objects (i.e. marae, cell towers etc)

Most of the actual landclass stuff shouldn't show if NZSI is higher on the priority list.

Many things to try out , what we want is the best of both worlds , one without dumping on the other .

Assuming you're running both NZSI and VLC (plus other NZ sceneries) - it seems to me there are two ways of looking at this:

1) You prefer some non-NZSI scenery and want to make it work with NZSI enabled.
Issues can be raised/discussed/solved here (on NZFF) either in some general forum area or Rob's support area (for RealNZ specific queries). More support may be available on the VLC site.

2) You see issues in NZSI-specific areas caused (possibly) by VLC or other add-ons.
These are best discussed in the ORBX forums.

Is that about right?

A posting at SOH from hour so back

koorby is offline

Sascha Normann (the AntarticaX developer) has posted a fix to his scenery - http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php/...ost__p__344919 - the issue was that his excludes for A/X extended too far north into NZ and therefore wiped out the autogen. Apply his fix if you have AntarticaX installed, and problem solved.

I will be shortly posting a small 'how-to' guide for NZ scenery developers which basically shows how to exclude a specific area in our NZSI for any airport/scenery that you want to patch to work with NZSI.

EDIT: The NZ scenery compatibility guide is now up - http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/top...-your-scenery/

Hi Ian.
That link now refers to the Side-by-Side License (SBSL) for FTX NZSI and Lockheed Martin Prepar3D and doesn't appear to have any connection to your NZ scenery compatibility guide.
