Looks like the MS Flight game days are numbered if the report on the following page is true...

QUOTE
Microsoft Studios is always evaluating its portfolio of products to determine what is best for gamers, families and the company, and this decision was the result of the natural ebb and flow of our portfolio management. Many factors were considered in the difficult decision to stop development on "Microsoft Flight"[/quote]
Well, we might just be seeing the final demise of MS flightsim, hard to see how they'll ever come back now. I heard there's this new sim out there, 'Explain' or something? Might be time to take a look:)
Oh dear, does this mean the end of life as we know it, or will the sun rise tomorrow....?
Screw MS! Not that i ever downloaded flight. They should do what Microprose did to Falcon 4 and turn the code over to the community to disect. That way we could rename it and never have to give the name MicroSoft another thought, Ever.
Another thought - MS must be increasingly occupied by generation Y'ers that when not given enough "positive reinforcement" for there work, fly into fits of rage and scrap plans or change jobs.

You mean just like Microsoft did when they sold ESP code to Lockheed Martin?

Geez you summed that up almost perfectly... for most Gen Y's and Z's for that matter!
Hah ...Im still trying to get installed & going on my PC..
There's a rumour going about (which I just started) that they are more interested in bringing Flight out as
a Smart Phone App.....?

Kind off but their is no guarantees with Lockheed either. They have already have had project leaders come and go. If the code was turned over to the communtiy it would last as long as it was needed. MS won't though, even though it no longer makes them any money.
It's a shame but not entirely unexpected to be honest. A small team of people that need to make a profit on every addon simply can't meet the expectations of a community used to thousands of 'crowd sourced' addons, some for free. Further, at least for me, the ability to fly over your own 'back yard' is the thing that keeps me using FSX.
Flight IS a good sim- It performs well, it looks great and it has some nice enhancements to the UI.....but it was doomed from the start due to those early decisions: Keeping it closed and focusing too much on the 'gamer'.
In my mind, they should have instead set up a controlled market place where 3rd party addons could compete with MS addons and MS took a slice of each sale to fund further enhancements.

For the intended target audience there just wasn't enough aliens or zombies to stab or shoot and you couldn't link/sync it to facebook or twitter and it wouldn't work on an iphone
For a company the size of MS you would think they would have done their homework. Arrogance will only get you so far and for them it appears to be a constant slide.
One day they will listen to their consumers.

They still make money from FSX. They are still producing boxed versions of course which still sell quite well

Yeah not really a new source that one, just regurgitating the news from the other site by the looks. A few threads on other forums about this too, e.g. avsim

Yeah, Avsim has a statement from Joshua Howard from the Flight team, kind of wraps up the whole thing.
