Well I bought FS Global 2010 quite a while ago, and use it in my FS9.1 as well as my FSX - it covers both.
I also use other meshes in certain areas (e.g. NZ) because FS will use the highest resolution mesh it finds for a particular area.
As I have said elsewhere, my main requirements are accurate coastlines, good mesh, and proper landclass.
I bought FTX AU for my FSX install, and found it disappointing - my old FS9.1 Classic plus VOZ 1.8 was better in several respects.
One of those was misplaced 'town' landclass, and another was a general excess of trees.
The recent ORBX release of scenery for Shetland apparently covered the whole place in trees, when in fact there are maybe a couple of dozen trees in the whole archipelago.
I am not willing to rebuild my current installations, to make ORBX work by accommodating their errors, particularly since their "beautiful places to fly" are not, to my mind, realistic.
That's how I feel - naturally, everyone else is free to follow their own inclinations.

Of course, each to their own. I do prefer accurate placement of coasts, roads etc... perhaps the ORBX crowd may actually improve it with the Global Vector solution in that they have reached out to "Pilots" crowd to get the technology in their product.

The one install which made both my FS 2004 and FSX really come to life was "Ultimate Terrain USA" (and Europe), which placed all the roads, railway lines, water regions and coastal lines, etc, accurately placed as found in Google satellite street map....
...followed by ORBX FTX Global for its global mesh!
..and just purchased "Instant Scenery v3.0" (FS 2004+FSX+Prepare3D) for me to populate all my favourite airfields and airstrips with zillions of objects...including people, with a click of the mouse!
Paul....
