There are upgrade paths but not that far back. Anyway it's free to try for a week so you can't loose unless you like it so much you HAVE to buy it.

Dave, tell the developer that they are onto a winner with the trial period. Wish more addon developers did it. I will certainly give it a try on my old PC, wouldn't have bothered otherwise. And, maybe it'll be something I can't live without. Thanks for the heads up.

Hi,
Because NZ is long and thin without many real reporting stations I found there were gaps between centers where the weather cleared when it should not have. A hidden option in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\HiFi\ASNFSX\Options
[Cloud options]
MaxCloudInterpolationRadius=280
was the solution.
[Cloud options] maybe there or not depending on ASN options selected. Just add it if it is missing. Off course you can change the value to what ever you find best.
The Xguage is clever also.

With weather stations far and wide and with the main divide one both AS and REX could not do was produce a realistic North Westerly cloud and sky and the gusterly winds in Christchurch , It will not produce a , well what is known as the North-west arch and it distinctive cloud making for some interesting flying over with the winds, would be interesting if this one makes a difference .

I would like to see this proven by observing the abrupt wind shift on short final with Runway 21 due to surface objects namely an area of trees to the left, it is noticeable on a moderate day but very noticeable on a windy day. This I will be checking for sure.

Given that ASN is supposed to create mechanical turbulence based on terrain goemetry, it will be interesting. No weather engine has claimed that scince the cloudX glider weather module that is ages old now.

Gidday,
When I use ASN (trial ver) it comes up with "ADVANCED INTERPOLATION" when at stations other than NZAA, NZWN, NZCH i.e NZWB NZKK etc instead of using the vatsim data provided, I have ticked the use VATSIM WX enabled. This was what put me off upgrading as the new versions came online of Active Sky as it does not seem to use the data provided by VATSIM. Does anyone else get this or is it just me?
Cheers
Ian

HI,
New Zealand is a hard country to provide this type of program for. Being long and skinny and only 3 real usable metars. Beta members have just received a update which fixes many problems with connections to FSX and also the problem mentioned re Vatsim.
Problem is your trials will have expired so you can't try it again. I am going to push for a 1 week unlock so retrial can take place. The program has many other useful advantages but I doubt whether we will ever see weather as it is everywhere.

The only real way to accommodate for NZ weather is to somehow link into each NZ weather station realtime.

Imagine if it could do this:

The Barber is a katabatic wind that flows down the Grey Valley on occasions and chills the bejesus out of the poor residents of Greymouth. Must look awesome from a plane though.
