Well almost here. To be released via steam within the next 2 weeks.
Looks promising from the video.

64-bit and Developers Kit sounds very enticing.
"Based on FSX code" does not.

They have potentially tough competition.
Isn't it marvelous that our little entertainment niche has no less than 4 serious players?

I'd certainly be taking a look.

Yes interesting but it is my understanding that the FSX code would need a complete rewrite for 64 bit.
I will reserve judgement until it after it is released. It sure sounds like they have put a lot of effort into it and the fact that they seek active community involvement is great. I am sure LM will be looking on with interest.

Some gutsy decisions, new sims are like buses, you don't see any for years, then 3 come at once.... it's funny how success might hinge on getting something out there, unfinished, so that all your work isn't overshadowed by the plethora of new sims. An early-release version needs to grab people and hold onto them, Aerofly FS2 did this well, a low-key release which you'd miss if you blinked, and let the community spread the word. DTG probably don't think that they have the luxury of a slow start, which may work against them. I have my fingers crossed!
The aircraft look very nice, certainly not another 'flight school', but the world looks underwhelming. Maybe they are holding back the best for the actual release, but I did say that I'd need to be grabbed by the lighting/atmosphere, the video leaves me ungrabbed.

EDIT: That final artwork they use in the video, and on their new site, reminded me of something, couldn't think what it was, until a lightbulb went on  :

Maybe it's a DX13 preview!???:)

Looks very interesting!
That rain effect looked pretty cool too.

CP, nah not a rewrite... then it wouldn't have made sense to have purchased the code from MS. It's more like find and replace. But then debugging could take you into all corners of the code base to fix issues that the 64bit numbers cause :)

Exactly m first impression. Factor in that most of the video is focused on airplane development and tools. Some may enjoy this, but probably not me.

We'll see.

This Early Access thingy seems to become a pest actually. BeamNG.drive has been in EA for two years now, no release indicated yet. AeroflyFS2 for one year now. I foresee a future where there will be only EA sims never to be completed but replaced by new EA sims instead.

Kind regards, Michael

Is that default scenery or ORBX world added?

Orbx textures are included as default. So both:)

After a good long look at the screenshots on their site, and seeing the comparison shot in the FSDeveloper.com discussion, I can certainly see an improvement over default FSX. But since I'm spoilt with the likes of PTA and AS16 in Prepar3d, it's been a long time since I saw a default FSX.
My initial impression, AFS2 plus Orbx = stunning, FSW plus Orbx = better than default FSX, but nowhere near a mature P3D with a few addons...

FS World early access price will the EUR24.99, so about NZ$40. Flight School I think was EUR15, so NZ$24ish.

Trouble with (or benefit of, depending on whether you are buying or selling) Steam is that prices tend to be more, um, fluid. Recall the FSX-se $5 giveaways. I'm old-fashioned, and a developer, so I prefer a good solid retail price, with the occasional sale maybe. with Steam you can flag a game, and you'll get an email if it's on special, which normally doesn't take long...
