The Owl’s Nest Fully Renovated

Over the past several weeks, I have completely renovated The Owl’s Nest.

A brand‑new airport database with 80,000 records now forms the foundation of the site. It powers the Airport Search, the Airports Database, and the Airport Distance Calculator. The distance calculator now optionally includes two intermediate stops in its calculations.

The Flight Traffic Radar has been switched from Flightradar24 to ADS‑B.

All pages that rely on tabular data—such as the Military Aircraft Database, the Military AI Aircraft Database, the Military FSX & P3D AI Model Database, and the MAIW Package Database—now use a modern and unified table design.

I am particularly pleased with the picture preview on hover over the Wikipedia link in the Military Aircraft Database.

The Download Center has been integrated into the site’s design and no longer opens externally.

In the Photo Gallery, I showcase photos I’ve taken at various airshows.

All other pages have received smaller updates. Visually, the entire site has been modernized while preserving its original style.

I hope you enjoy the improvements and notice the overall increase in quality. Looking forward to your visit!

Looks great, excellent having a one stop shop, have always found the MAIW site a little tricky to navigate and search so will defo use this next time I'm looking for a package

Epic work, Martin, well done.
Enjoyed your airshow section too!
As it goes with constantly evolving databases: there are references to flightsim.com which unfortunately is kaput

Thank you both! :)

I know, Charl. I fixed all FlightSim once in the past after they got hacked and came up with a new download setup. But this time they made it impossible to find a way from the old to the new url.

But you are right, I should not let people click on dead links. What do you think is better? Remove all FlightSim entries completely, or leave them in for reference and just remove the link or point towards the FlightSim download center?

I feel like it they were to be good web citizens  then they'd configure their system so the old links still worked when the new site is launched, and that the old links go to their new destination (if they move)

In that case I'd just save yourself some work for now and leave them as they are, unless there's a way you could not lose the old link info but when we click on your link for now it just pops up w something at your end to say the link will be reinstated later ... hopfeully

That's what I have done now - thanks for the inspiration!

Hopefully, they will be good citizens ...
