Interesting read. Heck, I might have to go up to Auckland to see one. The Emirates livery fits the A380 great in my opinion.
And they are getting 58 of them!?

Ah you are waay too honest!
My sim has been running ANZ 787's for yonks, and all the A380 orders are long filled!

On a slightly sobering note - I hope the airports are doing more than building up a slightly taller gate.
The other night we met an outgoing A320 and 767 queue at Sydney, and it took 2 hours to check in.
That represents only 70% of an A380 hit.

Can you imagine if a 747 and one of those crossed customs queues...

Does that include the Auckland-Dubai via Singapore route?

Isn't it evident?? Boeing are my favourite aircraft.

P.S. that's is my real birthday but I wish to keep my real age secret to keep you all pondering.

I was talking with Geoff Cooper, ANZ 777 captain, a while back and he hoped the A380 would never make it into service. I remember him saying it would be pandemonium at LAX is two or more super jumbos were unloading at the same time"¦ imagine that at AKL!

How will Auckland handle the disembarking? Last time I was up there I was told by a controller that they would park up on the apron (i.e. stands 15-18), which would mean quite a few buses to get them all over to customs...

Although from the news article it seems as if a second pier (or part of) will be used. Can anyone enlighten me? :)

At this stage, it will be operating a second DXB-AKL route via Sydney only.

I am planning to travel on this flight sometime next year. I wounder what sort of J product they will have :D

Good news for New Zealand aviation- I was unsure how long it would take for this to happen, but looks like AKL will be in the Top 10 :)

This was always going to happen, its great news, I would EXPECT it to go on the Sydney route first and doesnt suprise me that they would add a flight. I am flying as early as jan next year to sydney but it could be in feb or march, so i am definitely planning so i can see and fly on the A380 :D

Yea that was always gonna happen. I suspect it won't be the only flight EK use the 380 for nz. In time we will see more arround i'm sure. I'd say the 340 flight to chch EK412 will in time be replaced by the 380,- If they keep ch sectors.

There is a big new pier being built out the west end of the current international terminal that wraps around to where the current unlinked apron parking stands are.
