This site may be of use to you. NZScanners

I have a Uniden scanner, I can't remember the model (not near it to check at the mo) but I got a bigger aerial from Dicky Smiths.

It's about a metre long plus comes with the coaxial cable and plugs straight in where the small whip aerial normally goes. I've had it for years but I don't remember it being hugely expensive.
Testers are born to fiddle. What does this button do? Oh! Never mind.....

You can get a "Scan Ducky" Antenna which is just slightly longer than the standard and it is just a BNC connection and that covers 27Mhz - 1300Mhz or you could get a CB Antenna with the coaxial cable which will require a BNC adapter and place it at the highest point of your house such as the garage and that will probably give you the better reception/clarity and it also covers 26Mhz - 1300Mhz all this talk is reminding me that I still haven't put mine up lol cheers for asking the question and reminding me.

PS - Those 2x Antennas can be found at Dick Smith "Duck Smuff".

I sometimes plug mine into our roof antenna for tv/radio and can pick up aircraft flying in the Waikato!
