History Channel

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Those hooked on History Channel, and not tired of flight simulation, might be interested in the ongoing Dogfights series.
This is narrated by (now retired) fighter pilots and graphically illustrated by what looks like FS XII.
Tonight it's Phantoms and MiGs at 9:30...

I watch that program quite regularly, but I think the control surfaces don't move when turning etc. Either that or I can't see.

Just watched this series for the first time today on History Channel here in the US (no Sky at home) and it's a great show! I notice Season 1 and 2 are going to be sold at Amazon soon, priced at only $51 US (plus postage) for about 1300 minutes of aviation entertainment.. Might have to get it smile.gif

Yeah I series-recorded Dogfights, just for the thrill of seeing the very good aerial animations (Boy I wish my sim looked like that!)
But, after 3, 4, maybe 5 repetitions of how the glorious and brave American flyers did a barrel roll to get on the enemy six and shoot him out of the sky - be it in a P51, F86 or whatnot...well suffice to say I cancelled the series link, and have moved on... dry.gif

Not all the dogfights end in kills sometimes just getting away without getting shot down is a victory. I don't have sky but I am impressed by some of these stories and some of the manouvers are good for sims like lockon and Falcon. The other thing is now days the tactics have changed with A/A dogfights are now less likely to be as straight forward as out manouvering the other guy with missiles like the python 5,R73 and Aim9X the missiles can be launched off boresight or in the case of the python if he can see you he can shoot.LOAL lockOnAfter launch
