How many jumpseats does a DHC-8 have. I am going on Vincent Aviation and though I might try and see if I could get on the jumpseat with a friend but if there's only one seat I'll give it a miss.

Keep in mind that VA doesn't often put people on jumpseats as with a full load the dash can come close to its MTOW.

Yeah but if Kelburn and his friend are booked on the flight anyway it doesn't matter where on the plane they are.

When are you flying? I could talk to Dad and see if I could get one of you a take-off and the other a landing?

Flying to Nelson. Can't remember flight.
I think it'd suit him better if we sit together the whole flight though.

Hey guys. Just remember with the new CAA rules there can not be anyone visiting the cockpit during a flight. If anyone is going to do a jumpseat ride you have to be there before start up and after shut down. Leaving the cockpit during a flight means you are unable to return. This is the rules that have come out after the security problem with the Jetstream flying BHE to CHC. I know that this is the case for Air Nelson. If you want to jump seat ask at check in if it is available. If you are flying through Nelson most of the guys are happy for it to happen unless they are training or the weather is not to flash.

Probably stating the obvious here, but this rule wouldn't have done squat to stop our Somalian friend from doing what she did to the Jetstream crew on the NZWB - NZCH flight. Are they saying that what she did at the time was perfectly legal, and we need to pass legislation to stop it happening again? I'm sure she broke plenty of existing laws that were already in place at the time. Adding another one like this won't do a thing, other than wrecking yet another part of aviation for the majority of NZers.

Thing is though, ordinary Joe public will see it as improved security, and they're the people who fill seats and pay airfares.

Does Air NZ allow jumpseat passengers on flights to/from Aussie or Raro? It would be a dream come true to watch a big plane land from the cockpit.

I am pretty sure that you can't to Aussi because of CASA rules. You can try on the rarotonga flight but I think the requirements for this are the crew knowing who you are.
You should have a letter of approval as well which makes it easier to get in.
