I've always liked the Whenuapai shows. They're friendly, informal and not so huge that you spend 4hrs in a traffic jam afterwards. There's always some amazing flying displays - and it's great just to stooge about the hangars. I live a few miles away, so have no excuse. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the base commander gets to fly that toy for fun. He did quite a few "practices" the week before the display - some of which looked even hairier! Nice to see where our taxpayers' money is going winkyy.gif

I hope the Nats don't scrub this sort of fun.

Agree, pity they are not that often, the old wings and wheels were always good value.

March 3rd 2007, met Alex, Charl and Naki up there for the first time last year.

I believe the RNZAF open day is an annual event, that switches between Whenuapai and Ohakea each year, as a bit of a recruitment drive, so hopefully it will be back in Auckland early 2009.

I'm always amazed how quiet it is - compared to the old ear-splitting 727s. (although to be honest I prefer the noise - not sure my audiologist would agree though!)
