Please tell me its not the I-16?

QUOTE
A home-made aeroplane has crashed in a field south of Auckland with its pilot receiving minor injuries.

Firefighters isolated the aeroplane's fuel tanks from the wreckage at the crash site off Ponga Rd, near Opaheke, southeast of Papakura, Fire Service spokesman Jaron Phillips said.

Eyewitness reports indicated the pilot ejected from the plane , and emergency services staff had found him and he was OK.

There were no details available on how he ejected or if it was from any height.

Reports of second crash site near Drury had been investigated and proven false, Mr Phillips said.

"The pilot's fine, and [the aeroplane] didn't come down over any buildings. He was pretty lucky."

The incident had since been handed over to police and the pilot had now to arrange for his crashed aircraft to be taken away, Mr Phillips said.

Counties Manukau police described the aeroplane as a "home-built low wing aircraft" and said the pilot -- the sole occupant -- received minor injuries.

ohmy.gif The first thing my instructor said when we heard VVV call on the radio the other day was 'good god, he's gonna crash again' after it's recent history at Ardmore.

So glad not to hear of a fatality and that the parachute system worked out like it was supposed too!

WOW i cant begin to imagine how it feels to NOT to recover from a spin and survive with the plane in OK condition considering that guy deserves a DB groupwave.gif

The parachute is attached to the plane? Would love to see it floating down, looks like it landed pretty softly, all things considered. Lucky pilot smile.gif

Edit. Just YouTubed Ballistic Parachute and found this...

Not again! sad.gif He's really not having much luck with that. At least it looks like the damage is surprisingly minimal, and obviously good to hear no major injuries.

Wierd situation... one guy is pulling up real hard, the other guy pulls up to avoid him - what happened to both aircraft turning right to avoid collision?
