Flyby/Display - Mission Bay, Auckland 1PM Sunday

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Apparently there is a flyby/dogfight/display planned for tomorrow in Auckland at Mission Bay to promote "The Pacific" series starting on TV One.

Rumour is 2x Zero and a P-40, but I'm guessing it'll be the other way around?

I think the "Japanese aircraft" advertised will actually be played by Harvards. I'm not sure where they'd get the second one from anyway, unless the Auckland War Memorial Museum were planning on doing a quick DIY patchup on their one. dry.gif

Nah! ... Two Harvards "dressed up" to look like Zeros! It all happened too high and too far away to see much (we were on the memorial hill). Maybe they're still bound by CAA traffic rules <??> ... so couldn't go below the regulation altitudes etc. Nice outing all the same!

Couldn't help thinking that TV ONE skimped a bit .. considering the wealth of flying talent just 90 secs flying time away at Ardmore, that they could've put on a bit more of a "show" ... and got that much more publicity while they were at it! Bean counters rule, I suppose winkyy.gif

I wonder whether these same Harvards also feature in the A2A shots in the series.

Yeh, I was somewhat disappointed when I saw the silhouette of the Harvard rather than a Zero. I think it could maybe have been done better with the Zero and two Kittyhawks but hey, I was happy to see a cool display for free. I was up on Bastion Point and they looked like they were coming straight for us. I've got some video footage - I'll put it up if it's any good.

At least they painted the Harvards up with Japanese "meat ball" markings. winkyy.gif
