Air New Zealand Rarotonga 747?

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Was just on youtube and came across a new-ish video of an Air NZ 747-400 Landing into Rarotonga, Cook Islands. Since Air NZ seems to only fly A320's, 767's and 777-200's in Raro I am interested to find out if they are going to start 747 flights into raro till they kill the jumbo's off sad.gif

Link? I wouldn't have thought Raro was 747 capable - well at least that was my opinion after circling the airport in a scooter lol.

Just YouTubed it too, and yeah ok, they can land there. Would have been awesome to experience that overfly.

At the moment, there seems to be a fair bit of mixing up on the odd 747/777 routes. Some days 772, others 773 or 744. Not every route obviously, but a few such as AKL-BNE and AKL-MEL.

Sometimes over the festive season the 747 does the odd special trip to island destinations (usually Apia).
Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!
