I can see these becoming useful out of Auckland to GB and the Coromandel

I'm not holding my breath..

But... the French govt announced a future ban on short haul flying, citing emissions.
Good way to get electric planes in the sky then.
If they work on the prop acoustics they could be Good Neighbours.

I think the French are expecting people to take high speed trains instead, which to be honest as much as my aviation enthusiast side is disappointed, actually makes sense in a lot of Western Europe where for ~1 hour duration flights the train is often just as fast or even faster once you factor in all the additional delays you have with boarding and disembarking an aeroplane.

A high-speed train can deliver 10 planeloads, city-centre to city-centre in less time than it takes one plane to travel airport to airport. Trains will win up to around 3 hours journey time, beyond that, planes have the advantage.

Looks like that has been confirmed today with a Stuff news article reporting.

Sounds Air expects to be flying passengers across Cook Strait in electric planes by 2026. The airline announced on Wednesday it was on track to make history as the first airline in Australasia to pioneer electric air travel.
