Jumpseat

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Postby Q300 » Sat Jun 16, 2007 7:17 pm

Air New Zealand used to be pritty good with letting people in I got into a 744 a couple of years back. And last september I got to go into the cockpit of an ANZ dash 8 because the pilot was my GF's Dad at the time. But I dout you will get into the heavys any more like last year I got a mid air tour of the new cabin layout in the 744 but the cockpit was out of bounds because of 9/11 I dont know why a 16 year old aviation enthusiast would want to hijack the aircraft tho

Post 9/11 I've jumpseated with ANZ on the 733 and 320 domestically upwards of 30 times. Three or four times on the ATR with Mount Cook, (actually have found them the easiest.) Couple of times on the Saab with Air Nelson and once on J-41 with Origin, agreed very cool! Have been given a headset and looked through the door on an Origin Metro and J-32 as well. Agreed it's generally not what but who ya know! :plane:

I have been in a Air NZ DC-8 cockpit (obviously many years ago) enroute to Nadi & a Ansett BAe-146 cockpit over the Southern Alps enroute Queenstown.

ok this is the rule from air nz as i work for them

1. you have to be working for them and have a air side id card
2.you have tio meet the crew before takeoff and be cleared if they dont know you,you dont get on the filght deck most off the time
3.you have to have a staff ticket

and thats bout it as far as i have found other wise no way no how its a caa rule and fool be any crew leting you up the and its a air nz rule wich will cause the crew to be very serosly disaplined if not fired

hard luck

Its a discounted ticket for staff members of the airline. For AirNZ its a decent discount indeed!

[Mod Edit: From former Topic. "737 Cockpit. How would I get in?"]

How is the 737 cockpit secured? How effective would this be?

The only way would be to ask...

The door once locked is very secure and cant be opened unless someone knows how to open it. So no way of just walzting up and opening the door.

Would the cockpit door withstand a battering ram situation?

Customs/Security would allow you to board with a battering ram with your carry-on? :P
