Had to do a go around cos my approach wasnt stable.. then another one cos of aircraft on the runway, followed by a right turn into a right hand circuit, one left hand orbit... then a left turn into a left hand circuit for the runway running the other way cos tower decided they wanted to use that instead... But still had the same number of landings as take-offs, so thats a success!!

Stoked as, that makes me the first of NZ18 at CTC to go solo .

Although, you're not a PPL holder yet!! now comes the paper work to apply for the license!!

Hope you already applied for your criminal history from the Justice Dept for the "Fit and Proper Person" form... that usually takes like 6+ weeks!

Yeah, applied for all the forms before hand. Makes it a lot less stressful organising it BEFORE the test haha. Strangely enough, mine only took about a a week as well - luck of the draw. Anyway, forms sent away last Monday - so hopefully sometime this week or next.

Unfortunately, anything you request from the Wellington region takes forever to arrive. I've just completed a Traffic Controller course for road works and Temporary Traffic Management (nothing to do with aviation). I passed the test no problems, but they have to apply to the NZTA in Wellington for the wallet card that authorizes you as a Traffic Controller. They said it could take up to 3 months. They don't even have to do a background check, all they have to do is put my picture and name on a card.

Good to here there is another person with their PPL. Hopefully that will be me one day.

Test went well, ended up with a pass. Long flight with a few diversions, FLWOPs, EFATOs, Partial Engines failures and precautionary landings. A good challenge.

Hey all,

I started this thread around this time, 3 years ago and wanted to update it for those people looking to start out in flying.
I have since gained my first Commercial flying job, flying C210's around Australia. (the sky will never be safe again)

I was checked to line around a month ago and am now doing what i have always dreamed of doing. It sure does beat working for a living

So to all of those people starting out/looking to start out. A bit of hard work, Dedication and sacrifice WILL get you to where you want to be.

hi guys. i'm thinking of joining Bay Flight Aviation for their Twin Engine IR course. how's the quality of instruction there? any good? I heard they purchased a flash motion based simulator. how cool is that? need info on this flight school if it's worth training at. thank you.

I wouldn't really worry about what sort of sim they have anyway, you'll do maybe 15-20 hours on it towards your MEIR. I think the sim they have is based on the G1000 system and does some basic motion. They have a Seneca and some new Tecnam thing with the G1000 system in it. I'd be doing it the old fashioned way in the Seneca if it was me, but depends what you're planning on flying afterwards. Fairly good reputation, having not been there myself, sounds like a half decent place.

06.01.2012 PPL flight test passed. Second time lucky unfortunately, but that's just the way it goes unfortunately, and I have learn't a good deal from it.
