Very cool maneuver!

I heard of a similar stunt, when during the Falklands War when the RAF harriers were being chased by Arge A4's, they used to flick from forward flight controls to VTOL mode, decrease altitude slightly by hovering down, so the A4 would simply overshoot it, then flick back to forward flight again therefore becoming the chasing aircraft.

I wouldn't reccomend either of those manouvres in a dogfight as it bleeds your energy off and makes you into a sitting duck but it does look cool though.

The idea was their, the Harrier ( vectored thrust ) or known as viffing technique , they never had to use it due to the Argentina Air Force could,nt afford to get into start or chasing due to the lack of fuel , it was mentioned the FAA had a lot of respect for these guys flying in on the very limit of the Mirage and A4's range . It is a cool manouvre .... I m going to bring him in closer ! Ill hit the brakes and he will just fly by !

At least it isn't as bad as deliberately putting a phantom into a departure to accomplish the same thing.
