How did this sneak under the radar ? We've had front page news because a QANTAS airbus encountered turbulence for heavens sake, how did they miss a juicy non-event like this ?

A BMI British Midland Airbus A330-200, registration G-WWBD performing flight BD-762 (dep. Jun 19th) from London Heathrow,EN (UK) to Tel Aviv (Israel), was struck by a lightning while on approach to Tel Aviv. The crew continued for a safe landing, however without the right winglet that was still attached during departure from London.

The aeroplane was able to perform the flight BD-763 back to London on schedule.

Big deal, its just a winglet, it wouldn't bring a plane down.

Media events missed , missing winglets not an issue ... jeepers ... AIRBUS 330 s turn for the chopping block this season , and again - our 320 .. how close to the faults found on the more recent incident s could have be the cause in Southern France .

Wonder how come they hav,nt connected the dots ... Herald ? a local rag?
