Hi everyone,

I am very interested to go to AirNZ's simulators for just a visit. I am pretty keen on A320 Sim rolleyes.gif
I contacted them directly but obviously they declined my request.

Does anyone know how to arrange a visit with them? Or does anyone know someone who can help ? tongue.gif biggrin.gif

Thanks,
Ben

Perhaps try asking on the Pprune forums in the Dunnunda and Godzone section here or wait until their next open day at Auckland.

Unfortunately, they do have a pretty tight schedule. I was lucky enough to have a go at the 744 simulator, but other than the open days, you'd have to be pretty lucky to get in. Its not what you know, but who you know.

at least when i was on open day, one of the "guides" said that sims are working almost every minute(except dark night)...

And at "dark night" the pilots from JetConnect etc are using them... as its the only time slots available!!!

Also, bear in mind that they charge the sims out at something silly like $750+GST/hr... at least, that was a rate I heard about 2 years back ohmy.gif

I have been in all the simulators at AirNZ, the only reason I was able to get to to this was because a friend of mine is a Pilot on the 777-200, and I was in Auckland and had time to kill so he offered to take me through the sim's and also a tour of the hangars.

Try sending an email to Captain David Morgan @ Air NZ, I've delt with him before for jumpseat flights and he's really nice. david.morgan@airnz.co.nz

Thanks all for your responses.

I am aware of the high cost for Sim usage and I know I won't be able to hire any of those based on CAA regulations, but even being in the A320 Sim would be awesome.

I have been to 777 and 727 Simulator outside of NZ based on a job I had to do, Just need an A320 Sim biggrin.gif

Hey guys.
I work for Air NZ and I have a mate who flys the 767. He asked If I could go with him to his next sim check. The answer was no. THe company was fine with it but as the hangars are classed as being airside AVSEC have put a stop to any one not working on the sim from entering any of the buildings. I know that this is policed now.

Sorry to be a spoil sport.

Nick.

Yep, I had the same problem with AVSEC. Has the world gone mad?

Not possible on the AirNZ simulators due to crazy AVSEC, but if you travel overseas (and away from AVSEC) then it is possible. Search the web and you will find several places where not only is it possible, but it is even sold as 'experiences'. I have managed to get 'flights' in full motion simulators in Thailand, Germany and even the USA. Here are a couple of links to give you an idea:-

http://www.virtualaviation.co.uk/fun.html

http://www.realsimulation.co.uk/

Just that AVSEC is a problem.

smooth landings.

I am aware of the places you can pay and use the fully licensed simulators, I just didn't want to travel that far. There is a place in UK which has many different simulators and it is so awesome.

AVSEC is everywhere these days. but I again it is not that impossible depending on the position you are in.

But thanks again for your help guys smile.gif

Have you considered the 737 sim at Flight Experience?? Its not quite in the same league as the ANZ sims but still quite good from what I've heard (Although its a little on the expensive side for my taste!!) One of the Waikato Aero Club instructors works at the Hamilton franchise and said that for $1000 you can get the Flight Experience 737 Sim Rating, which gives you lifetime unlimited use of the sim for free - New Zealand wide!!

Flight Experience

MAT

PS - When I start work at Auckland Oceanic I'll be sure to ask if I can have a go on the sims and report back!!

Oh Yea , Done few routes using FMS and ILS/VOR approaches in that Sim. It is pretty cool eventhough not licensed , but I am looking to visit an A320 licensed Simulator.
