New Air New Zealand seating products

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Postby benwynn » Sun Jan 24, 2010 9:57 am

So tomorrow is supposed to be the day Air New Zealand announces/displays their new seating configurations for the new long haul fleet.

There was a video on YouTube the other day, but now its been marked as private. I'm assuming as of tomorrow and the announcement is made, it will become viewable.

That particular is courtesy of a PPRUNEer, hopefully he doesn't mind.

But yes- if you go onto YouTube and search Air New Zealand by upload date, it comes up. You just can't watch it yet..

Yeah that Y+ is basically business class! Way better than the current premium economy seat, that's for sure.

The whole lot looks really good, and I can't wait to fly it later this year and next year.

Except the space, it's going to be better then J of many carriers(including LH for example). Now i understand ANZ and their plans to increase number of Y+ seats on 772. Can't wait to fly to Aussie with ANZ on 773)))

I don't think they'll be flying the 77Ws to Aussie. I guess its supposed to be replacing the 744. Good chance you'll get on a 772 though- especially AKL-SYD.

747/777 flying to MEL at least 4 pw, and that's not about high demand, its more about utilising LH fleet during day time on the routes with reasonable demand, BNE actually should get 3 777 and 2 747 next week, while SYD have only 1 weekly 777, so i assume on some days they(77W) will visit AUS, i don't think that ANZ will change their LH schedule so radically that biggies won't stay on the ground between LH flights

I went past the AirNZ building in Auckland yesterday an on an wall facing the building (can't be seen from the road) there was a large billboard with the slogan "three seats or a couch - you decide". Basically you pay for 3 economy seats and you can extend it out forward to put your legs up, or lie down. So to get the benefit you either need to be family with kids, or be a couple/mates and pay for all three seats.

and now the reality......

seems like we will have to pay 50% of the cost of the unused 3rd seat, which means something like $500 extra each way for a NZ-Europe flight. Lot of money for the space, so are the airlines thinking of fewer passengers paying a higher price each? Last flight I had back to NZ I got 3 normal economy seats so could stretch out, nice but not worth $500 extra. Also, I wonder if they will have to wake everybody up and get them seated normally in case of turbulence.????? Nice idea, but the dollars count, so no cuddle class for me.

smooth landings.

Yes after watching the spiel on the news I was wondering about the costs and usage too. For two people to use this seating you need to pay for two seats and get the third at half price. Bet you cant pay the same for three people and not use the lay flat capability !!

Im pretty sure they said something on the news that there will be a special 'seat/couch' belt that you wear whilst lying down, so probly not.
I think thats what I heard...but then again I could be wrong,
