They kept the gear down for a long time there... just in case?

Standard procedure on a first of type flight when systems proving is still top of the agenda. If it goes up and doesn't come down you have a major setback to your test program.

They'll climb up and cycle the gear a few times to check the system functionality, take off is too busy to concentrate on the details of each system check.
