If you have flown with AirNZ recently, then you may have heard them boasting about being voted the best airline in the world. I was surprised to hear this, and wondered why quality airlines like my favourite SQ had not won the award. It turns out that this 'award' comes from the ATW magazine, which is a based on "airline industry submissions". It is a USA based magazine with a circulation of approximately 40 000. Reading this magazine, I also saw that Air Baltic also won an award (Phoenix Award). So any survey that gives Air Baltic award immediately loses credibility in my opionion. If you have flown with Air Baltic then you will know that they certainly do NOT deserve any awards.
So a lot of boasting by AirNZ about an award that in reality means very little. Much better to look at sites such as Skytrax where actual travellers can vote and where the results mean something.
I have experienced 4 AirNZ international flights during February, and noted one thing in common. It seems like the food trolley is only coming around once now, and that the staff are bringing everything together, drinks, tea and coffee and food. Not only that, but AirNZ seem to be serving child portions now, as the size of their 'meal's is sad.
Lucky that there are a lot of airlines to choose from!
smooth landings
