Well, just saw approx 6 F18's Super Hornets and a KC10 Tanker land at NZAA at approx 5.10pm. I looked up and saw some landing lights and closer than normal seperation, and there they were. Being a bit younger, I have never seen a DC-10 land, the KC-10 was the closest I've seen - nice looking ship.
Just had a hunt online and it appears a C17 was with them all destined to their new home base in Aus. The F18's are brand new, just picked up from California.

As a friend of mine says, if you don't have photos then it didn't happen..... 'course, he isn't usually talking about planes when he says that!

I hope to see them somehow before they fly out. I work at the Airport, so I'm hoping I can get one of the ATCO's or Pilots I work with to get me access. They were so loud on approach (it was awesome!). I wish I had pictures.

I feel a sicky coming on!
Would certainly be a sight to behold... Imagine if we had one or two machines like this!

Just went for a quick drive by the airport and they are parked up between Jetstar and the International Teminal. Visible through the chainlink fence by the Jetstar drop off area (so good luck parking there!!) or perhaps from the Skydeck at the International Terminal. Happened to be along Tom Pearce Dr last night when the C17 came in. Looked very nice.

They are impressive to compare this type against Australia's early model after seeing both display , just simply a totally different Bug!

it is interesting to note the way the low vis grey scheme appears to change colour with the change in weather/light/time of day.
it is quite a dark grey in low light but picks up the blue more and becomes almost a silver grey later in the day

The RNZAF's Orions are exactly the same. They are all painted the same colour with the same paint, but it's not unusual to look at the line up at Whenuapai and be fooled into thinking "why the hell are those three P-3's all a different shade of grey"
