Posted: Wed Apr 14, 2010 7:34 pmI guess Tasman could still base the machine in Auckland and fly it up/down to the Pacific, avoiding Aussie airspace, but I wonder if they wont just replace it in September. The Belgian company that actually owns VH-DHE (European Air Transport) might lease Tasman one of their A300s or a 757 as a replacement?

ps - If anyone gets wind of a farewell for the thing in September, or if you know how we might get a better view of VH-DHE departing than through that terrible security gate at NZAA near where it usually parks, let me know. I'd love to go up to AA and see the machine departing some time.

Yeah according to Mike Condon's blog that was a loaner while VH-DHE was off for maintenance. Is it still in Auckland?

Most countries have no issues with B727s and their noise level . I can understand to ban Tupolev and Antonov ( 1960-80 models )as the noise level is very high in low altitude ( where there are residential places close to airport)
But nothing can be the roar of almost idle engines of a TU-154 getting close to the runway ?!! Probably not so pleasant for those who live there though lol

I would LOVE to catch sight of a Tu154 in real life, and hear the thing take off, I just love the look of those things. Must organise a trip to Eastern Europe some time
Posted: Tue Apr 20, 2010 10:27 amThat would be a great experience, You can feel the engine spooling up in your heart if you are on tarmac or even outside of airport. I flew around 6 times on tu-154( B and M ), twice on IL-62 and twice on IL-96 .
The closest experience you can get is to have Project Tupolev 154M on your FS , It is free and one of the best ( and complex ) add-on to date.
