Hey guys

I recently embarked on a project to model in 1:72 scale the majority of the Alpine Fighter Collection as it was January 1 1996 - the day before Sir Tim's catastrophic crash in the Spitfire XIV.

So far I've done Miss Torque and the first Polikarpov I-16 (and the Hurricane, although in 1996 it was only a bare frame), and a coupla weeks back I finished the Ki.43 Oscar. Here's my review of the Oscar, with several pics, on the very popular Modeling Madness webzine. A coupla of my other model builds have featured there in the past.

At the mo I'm working on the P-40K, the Harvard/"Zero" replica and the Fox Moth. I've also done a fictitious Spitfire gate guardian replica painted as TB863. I'll post pics of the models done so far if you'd like......

Interesting that this popped up as a Real World topic!
I'd thought modelling was a lost art, perhaps replaced by PC simming?
The last one I did, years back, was a 1:24 Harrier and what a splendid chunk of plastic that was. At that scale you could really get down to rivet detail, and I did.
It took forever, I even gave it spring suspension.

Great Oscar model, absolutely like to see your other creations, especially Miss Torque.

ZK-PXL underway. I had previously made this model as the plane was in 2000, when owned by Dick Thurman.

Yak-3 underway. I'm awaiting a tad more dosh so I can finish the paintjob.

Miss Torque. I made this model after coming home from Wanaka 04. I'm so glad I got to see her once before she went back home to the US.

Now this may seem strange, but this is the first Polikarpov I-16 as it appeared at the time of its first post-restoration flight in 1995. She is Number 9, the allover OD aircraft. My gf and I are planning to each make an I-153 too!

TB863 the gate guardian. This was built using the less-than-accurate 1960s Airfix kit, and due to its nasty bits I decided to pop her on a pole. Maybe a future NZFPM feature?

The Zero replica. Rather than be cheap and simply repaint a "real" Zero as the AFC's 288 I decided to get a Harvard kit and do the same mods 20th Century Fox did to make her a convincing "baddie" for Tora, Tora, Tora. I've added round wingtips, pointy tail, retractable tailgear and converted the cockpit to singleseat. I'm waiting for a Zero canopy and cowling parts from the states to allow me to finish her.

Thanks a bundle for your feedback guys, and no, far from it modelling is as popular as it always has been.

I wasn't too sure what category my builds would come under, so I thould "Real World" was most appropriate due to all the planes being AFC.

I promise I'll be posting pics of each new plane as I finish it.
