BREAKING NEWS: Nine people have died and one person is injured after a plane crash at Fox Glacier airport, St John ambulance said.
The crash happened just before 1.30pm at the end of the runway. Reports emerging from the scene say the plane was from a local sky diving company.
The ambulance is now taking one person with moderate injuries to the Greymouth Hospital by road.
The plane reportedly burst into flames after takeoff.
Ambulance staff did not know the age or gender of those deceased.
There is only one sky diving company based at Fox Glacier, Skydive New Zealand.
A message on the company's answerphone this afternoon said, "unfortunately, we will not be skydiving for the rest of the day."
Police are at the scene.

Fletcher skydiving plane... I also heard that it was turboprop powered, which in all likelihood would make it a PAC750XL, no?

No not an 750XL but a Fletcher FU24 powered by a Walter turbine. Rego ZK-EUF. This aircraft was fully re-built and converted to para drop configuration earlier this year.
Certainly not much left of it and very close to runway, must have been pretty sudden and quite an impact.
