NZFF

Some airports make it difficult or near impossible to take photos, others are the opposite. I have a trip coming up to Zurich soon, which is a great place for photos, with its open roof terrace. Not only that, but the airport website has details of the spotting areas, and even a pdf map to download with the best photo spots marked.

Not only that, but on certain days they will drive you around the apron and even stop at the runway intersection for you to get out and take photos. Like a breath of fresh air to find that ZRH is still sensible, and that it has such a positive approach to photographers. But I guess that in Switzerland you would expect nothing less.

This means that if the weather is good then I will be posting more shots from ZRH. I wish that more airports would follow the example of ZRH.

Happy , they did the drive around tour at Sydney early 2000 , two ta three hours driving in and out of the normal unaccessable areas , that time was know to be the only airport that did this , pity some don,t follow , be looking forward to your photos .

Regarding airside tours, it is interesting that Sydney said that it did not fall within their business plan. Apparently ZRH can do it and it fits in with their plan. Obviously there is a demand for it, and perhaps other airports are missing out on an opportunity.

She's a big girl when zoomed in like that - great pic: I hadn't seen it before. I've always liked the way that such a bulky, ponderous beastie such as the 747 is able to launch itself into the sky.

@ HamiltonWest , Thanks Ham , it was a brilliant tour , did it twice .

@ happytraveller , Happy , this is why the 747 outshines the 380 , when first tested the 400 series was the first to exceed 410 tonnes on takeoff .

@ IslandBoy77 , Pete , they are all so a hell of a thing to watch on landing - the way it shakes and shimmers putting the brakes on going hard to stop .

I must say though, Wellington's pretty user friendly. The terminal has great views (if only they weren't salt encrusted!).

And to get within 15m standing distance of an international runway is pretty good! Just a pity that 737's are the largest thing there!

Trust me Tui , entire airport heavy ,s have been frag,d all gone , least a few so your not alone .

Back from another visit to Zurich airport at the weekend, and was again impressed by just how photographer friendly the airport is. With the cooler weather in Europe, the hot chocolate on the viewing terrace was much appreciated. I believe in giving credit to people when things are good, so I emailed the airport authorities today to say how much I appreciated the good facilities for photographers. Had a reply back from the airport within a couple of hours, so I hope that somebody there has got a pat on the back for making all this possible. There is a copy of their reply below. ZRH will get a vote from me in the Skytrax surveys!!!
