Hey Guys,

Here are some promised shots from the school... There are way more, but will take too long to do, so here are my favourite ones. Other visitors included a RNZAF Aermacchi, P-3 Orion, Ex RNZAF CT4 Trainer (the first one ever made, now ZK-DGY), Yak 52's, Trojan, And others which I cant remember lol. Enjoy! :)

Awesome shots KAG- I really like the aerial shots and the 2nd shot in your 2nd post. It looks like a great atmosphere there, and I would truley love to attend one year (the only thing stopping me is enough $$$).

Just a quick question- what do you spend your time doing there at the camp?

Are there ground schools to teach you the basics before you go flying?

Where do you fly? Around the circuit at Matamata (that would be quite busy wouldn't it?), or do you venture off to different airports?

Thanks for sharing >nzflag<

Thanks Trolly!! :D

It is a fantastic atmosphere down there! Surrounded by people who are very much like minded is great!

As for the $$$, if you apply, you could get a Rotary Scholarship worth like $700, I got it and its not hard to get. In all I spent about $500 and got 12 hours out of it. As I soloed on the 6th day (out of 14) I decided to consolidate my solo (circiut bashing pretty much). So hence the extra $$$. I won $1000 worth of flying from Aviation Services from the school and as I chose Airline Flying Clubto spend that money, I now have 19.5 hours with about an hour left on the scholarship. Im off to Massey next year so it will be covered on my student loan.

At the camp, we have 2 lectures a day (for the first week), and after each briefing (which lasts about 45-60mins) we go out and practice what we learnt. However slower learners or lack of flying time (due to overbooking), use up to 2 weeks to complete the flying part.

Most of the other time we just revise what we learn, from textbooks, and learn checks etc... There is plenty of leasure time tho!!!

We mainly fly around MA, during the school, a 10nm radius around the airfield and is set up as a control area (CTA) and is divided up into four, and this is the training area. Then of course just hanging in the circuit when it gets nearer to solo time. No ab-initio students fly out past the CTA, however returned students do get the chance if they are at that stage in their flying...

Hope this gives a better insight into the workings of the School, any more questions, and Id be happy to answer them! ;)
