Word on the street is that a Qantas A380 diverted to Auckland at 0935 this morning from LA. Not sure of the details, but keep an eye out today!

Strange Trolly, i was just reading about them finding cracks in some of them (wings) including a Qantas one. These things are really turning into a big headache for Airbus i think.

If they are finding cracks in the wings after the short period they have been in service , you want to start asking the company some serious questions , this has happened before with the large aircraft , Lockheed C5 lasted a longer period , almost eleven years and was as a design fault in keeping the weight down, other being alloy and not the composites used today .

QF18 has done that a few times now, mostly to AKL. It has the reliability of QF8 (DFW-BNE-SYD) which has had to make many a fuel stop also. 777s would have fixed the issue but they are 'old' technology

More than likely the forecast weather at Sydney. On those long skinny legs it is not uncommon to re plan inflight in order to carry the payload. NZCH was probably the designated enroute fueling aerodrome.

I also saw a Qantas 747 heading to LA from Sydney do a u turn from about 100 miles East of cape Reanga and head back to Auckland a couple of nights ago left NZAA about an hour latter to continue on to LA

I think Qantas is slowly loosing its position as a reliable airline now. Especially since the addition of the A380. Had engine issues again on them a few weeks back. The number of good reliable/properly maintained airlines is fast dwindling.

Well something has to give in order to maintain the unrealistically low airfares.....and it will get much worse.
