There are only 10 Napier Sabres left apparently and only two of those are privately owned (by Kermitt Weeks)...he has a Tempest V under restoration - no Napier Sabre has been run since the 50s as far as I'm aware.

The Tempest II has an early model Centaurus - there are also issues with this powerplant too but at least there are a few airworthy Seafury's with a similar powerplant. There is also a Tempest II under restoration in the US with a P & W powerplant.

Same with most WWII aero engines , scarce as hens teeth , there is a Napier at Wigram partially cut open showing the working , believe it was from a Typhoon .

Actually there are probably more Sea Furies flying with Wright R-3350's that with Centaurus' these days...

Yes certainly in the States..different story in the UK though as such a conversion warrants a new type certificate (and the extra costs invloved) so they are all Centaurus powered IIRC.

Interesting that the Kermit Weeks example has WWII history as SA-I 486(NZ) Squadron New_Zealand_etc.gif

The Nanchang will always keep up as its leading but it should be fine, am sure the beast would hang in there cool.gif

Here is a still from the camera mounted in the Fw-190 during one of Frank's test flights last week. Will be a while before I can post photos looking back in the other direction but the 190 looked simply stunning as it cloud surfed alongside. One of those amazing opportunities that has one grinning from ear to ear for months afterwards. Will be a magazine feature coming soon using these photos so will keep you posted on that.
