Old photos

Have done some photos of some slides my Father took back in 1958, First Viscount in NZ in CHCH 1958, Some F27 and Viscounts in different schemes. Some US aircraft used in the ice programme also 1958. I am trying to get better images of these. Enjoy.

Awesome pics. That era was, IMHO, one of the more interesting ones in aviation history - too bad I wasn't even born in '58! Love the old F27 - have many fond memories of it's screaming engines on the "special trips" (going from Hastings to Napier back then used to be a "treat") to HB Airport in the '70's, and of being clipped around the ears by Mum for not covering my ears to protect them!

Superb photos , for peoples interest ,

photo 1 : to the left of the tower the second story was added in the early 60s , this was to become a dinner lounge for the International travelers and to the right of the building as it go's to single level building was the airport fire base .

photo 2 : beyond the Viscount , you can see Avonhead road and the bend that then turns into Greys road , the corner - intersection is the gravel pit ISSACS bro's used to get the filling for the base for runway and any hard fill required , in the early 70 to 80s course filled up as a lake , this now filled and and old quarry gone .

photo 3 and 4 : obviously Auckland in the period .

photo 5 and 6 and 7 : Fokker F27 Friendship and a Dak ... and off course the Chicken wire fence and waterpipe tubes for the gates , they were the days .

photo 8 and 9 and 10 : you now can probably understand my interest with the Connie , that one is 'Phoenix' and the Globemaster 2 ... look how close you were by the fence line , the wing tip tank almost directly over your head , As some may have guessed .. the gate colours , Green for domestic and Red for International .. Imagine the Connie and Glogie starting when your so close ... jezz they were the days

Photo , course all on the Ice , interest sake only one off two LC-47s survive , one is out at the Ferrymead Museum in Christchurch here ... those shown above are the 'SUPER' Dak VX-6s LC-117Ds

Appearing - the Piper Cub , oldest Canterbury Aero Club aircraft and it still flys

Very relevant to Adrian's brilliant post and to place your in the period , This photo is from a 1964 publication of 'Airline Review'.

Gotta love that Kodachrome, the colour is still brilliant. Is all the dust and everything on the slides or is it a byproduct of the scanning process?

Hahaha - nice one Ian! That get-up I'm wearing is the only time I got to go up in a 'Moth from Bridge Pa - and the pilot / owner let me have a go as well - woo hoo! I was surprised how much rudder a 'Moth needs to fly straight...

I think the dust is on the inside of he slide.
In those days the developed negative was place between two pieces of plastic. I need to dismantle (carefully) clean and re assemble.
They were not scaned. Projected onto wall ant I took a photo. Wall was cream colour so after claening will project onto white wall to see if any clearer image. Thinking of putting onto CD but at $3 each need to think hard about it.
Have a set also on the development and production of the DC10. Awsome flying pics of the first few nmodels built.Will post a few shortly.

These photos are great, as it happens I have just started rebuilding my Classic Sim(thats pre-1963) project, piecing together everything thats been done so far(check out CalClassic website) and starting on my own NZ scenery for this period.

It use the FS9 and the GoldenWings mod as the base.
Hope to have some screenshots soon.
