Hi guys,
Firstly, my name's Joe Mathieson, and I'm an aspiring 17 year old pilot from Christchurch. After narrowing down some of my final flight school options, including the likes of CTC and Massey, I'm starting to come across the ADAPT pre-screening test more and more often. Regarding this, has someone here been through this test? I'm not asking for hints, but the ATTTO page is quite vague when it comes to describing the tool, other than the fact it is in a "cockpit setting"........ I'd just like to ask what the test actually tests - not what it *possibly* involves.
Thanks a bunch,
Joe Mathieson.

My school did ADAPT testing. It was basic maths and comprehension + a simulator session, as well as trying to see how enthusiastic you are about flying and finishing the course. They just want to make sure you can pass the required exams. The maths was VERY basic, I can't really remember exactly what it was, but nothing difficult. From memory the computer stuff also had quick problems to be solved and stuff like that.
I guess nowdays with limited student loans they probably look more into these tests results, but at some of the smaller schools (Not CTC and Massey) it's as much about how keen you are, if you've done much/any flying before, whether or not they can see you finishing the course.

Thanks very much for that Ben, much appreciated!! Twas really the last sort of element of all the selection testing they do that I wasn't to sure of the contents, thankfully

I'm starting to wonder what else they'll throw at us to be honest!!
Cheers!!
Joe.

For CTC they use an assesment called "PilApt". It's a computer based test, that tests comprehension, ability to multitask, reaction times, orientation awareness etc. If you google it somewhere online they describe the content of the 7 or so tests they do. It's not too difficult, but certainly not an easy-in. Not sure about anywhere else though.

Yup, I'm doing ATPLs now and then just got the IR test and about 20hrs CPL training to go. The workload is big, but it's great fun.

I'm an "NMIT Cadet" in other words self-funded through the NMIT Diploma of Aviation Science, with a student loan to back it up. Hopefully CTC lives up to the advertising and helps me get a job at the end, otherwise I'll have to go it alone and take what I can get.

if you're lucky enough to be offered a place with a student loan, just get it. start paying it back once you're in full time employment; stay in NZ and it's interest free.

Just be aware you won't be able to keep up a job if you train at CTC. You have to live off whatever you have, and whatever you can get off the government.
The schedule is 5 days on 1 day off, so your day off moves every week, and the workload is pretty high. I don't know of anyone who is managing to work whilst here.
