Just wondering how the hire/rental of aircraft works her in NZ.
For example if I was to go away for the weekend and only flew the aircraft for
8 hours for the whole 50 or so hours that I would be away would I be paying $220 an hour for the whole time?
or $500+ in the case of a helicopter....
Or would it be different with each Aero club etc. Also just wondering if there are any places other than Aero clubs or flight training centers that

Whirly .. its simple , just go to the local aero-club and tell em what you want to do .... if your ppl/cpl 'd' .. won't be a problem unless you have a bad rep - ie: crashs

Were I fly you only pay for the time the the engine is running so in your case if it's a four hour flight out and 4 back you'd only pay for the 8 hours - if you get delayed by weather for an extra day- same cost. I think most clubs and establishments work that way. But as Ian says check it out with your local.

Generally clubs will have a minimum number of hours the aircraft needs to be flown per time away from base. Obviously you can imagine it costs them a lot of money to have a plane sitting on the ground away for 3 days when it could be doing 2+ hrs a day at the home base. Provided you're going to be flying the aircraft a reasonable amount, clubs rarely charge an additional fee for weekends/overnights and will only charge tacho/hobbs time.

Dose anyone know if this works with Helicopters as well??

Biggest thing is enjoying it and walk in with 'CONFIDENENCE' you can't go wrong !

Check with whoever your borrowing the aircraft from. We dont have minimum hours here.
