Auckland Airport welcomes third Emirates A380

Auckland Airport is set to become the first airport outside Emirates’ Dubai to host three Airbus A380 aircraft at one time.

Auckland Airport welcomed the announcement today by Emirates which will see the airline introduce the third double-decker aircraft from October 2 on its daily Auckland-Brisbane-Dubai route. The addition of the new Airbus A380 will see an extra 135 return seats introduced each day on the Auckland-Brisbane-Dubai route.

Adrian Littlewood, Auckland Airport’s Chief Executive, says he is delighted with the introduction of the new A380. “This new A380 service to Brisbane, alongside the existing A380 services, increases seat capacity and will help stimulate demand and fuel growth for New Zealand tourism industry.â€￾

“For Auckland to be the first airport outside of Dubai to accommodate three A380s on the ground at one time is fantastic and really highlights Emirates’ dedication to New Zealand and its commitment to growing passenger demand by adding more capacity. This is great news for the tourism sector and the New Zealand economy.â€￾

The Emirates A380s can carry 489 passengers and were first introduced on the Emirates Auckland-Sydney-Dubai route in 2009. Emirates introduced an Airbus A380 on the Auckland-Melbourne-Dubai route last October.

No Qantas 380s no. Emirates and Singapore only I beleive

I've heard EK originally started sending the 380 to AKL as it's cheaper to fly it empty and back across the Tasman than keep them parked at SYD for the day. Don't have any figures to back that up however.

And SQ currently use the 772 into Auckland.

Regards to the parking , they have aircraft one being a private DC-8 on the SYD private ramp and in 2001 it was cheaper park an aircraft there than it was to park a car in the airports carpark for the day .

Yes I heard that too, EK also brings the 777 into CHCH cause its cheaper - used to be an A340-300

SQ also use 773. The 773 does the day service with the 772 on the midnight one.

I'm just wondering which air bridges these three A380s will use if they are all at the same time.

I guess what they mean by this is the first airport Emirates service with the A380??? Singapore Changi has been handling way more than 3 A380s for a couple of years now. I was passing through Changi in 2010 at the time of the Eyjafjallajökull eruption and they had pretty much all their A380 fleet grounded at Changi. Was an impressive sight as we taxied past gate after gate of them.

heard emirates are planning another A380 NZAA- YPPH either late this year or early next year so along with the possible Singapore one we may be getting 5 by early next year - should make for some interesting times on Ground, especially if they all turn up at the same time - then throw in a few diverts ie Qantas as per the other day ....

ouch, my head hurts just thinking about it ............ oops no that's just the pain from the broken ankle I'm hobbling around on now. huh.gif

All those extension cords draped around a control tower fish bowl will take its toll with ya FS laptops plugged in , trip on one break ya ankle and on your down hit your head on the 380 portfolio , fancy French thing ... they make the covers outta wood rolleyes.gif

Bet ya they did not land all at once tongue.gif .. think of the kaos thru customs , be interesting to see passenger numbers on the three aircraft ... many flights i had from overseas were empty but coach class and a few in second , first class was empty ... always best to keep the aircraft running even if not even half full .

Ian one of these days you will have to make a nice comment about Airbus, just to prove you are not completely one-eyed!

I know, try one in the sim!
I enjoy cruising the TDS B787, despite its massive real-life component failure rate making it the biggest piece of poo.gif in the sky today!
EDIT: This is not fair on other aircraft, as they actually fly.
