NZ Aviation Facts

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Postby Kahu » Wed Jun 05, 2013 7:21 pm

I went to pick my wife up from ACKL airport yesterday, arriving slightly early I went up to the observation lounge and overheard a couple talking about the aircraft in view.
There was a women informing the man she was with on a couple of aviation facts that I thought interesting so will share with you guys.

Firstly the A320 in ANZ Star Alliance (15 year) livery represents Star Alliance, which is NZ first airline and the 15 years is how old the plane is, which she explained because of its old age (15 years) is why it looks so small next to the newer Boeing 777.

Now this next fact I bet nobody knew and that is the Britten Norman Trislander in Great Barrier livery Link Here that had just landed was in fact a RNZAF fighter jet, as she explained to the man "you can see the jet engine on the tail", and its in blue camouflage.

I would of loved to have listened in longer but my wife's plane and just taxied in so I had to leave.

True story

If you would have stayed you might have had heard the true story of the Airtruck being used as the primary trainer for RNZAF in 1999, and the new Rolls-Royce jet engine development for retro-fitting into Cessna 152's...

But then again, what would you say if you were that guy listening to her talking like an expert. I think I sound like that when I talk about flowers smile.gif

almost as bad as the chemtrail that was reported on 3 news about two years back as a ufo or a meteorite, they even had a person from the observatory commenting. turns out I had to email them to tell them it was a singapore 747 going to Oz late in the afternoon. it started to contrail and of course when it levelled out it gradually descended to the horizon. I know as I cleared it for take off and watched it on radar when it started.

That's a regular feature in the northwester evens with the sun creating a impressive display ... most all don't even notice it , sure their eyes are painted on , but you can imagine some comments - out a couple weekends back on my brothers farm and pointed the regular flight north/south , the contrail ... one comment was " I thought those were rockets" rolleyes.gif
