Huh, the CAA is letting people repeat radio transmission now? Or do they have some sort of permit?

I thought it was up to Airways, not CAA?

Nope, it's a CAR (Civil Aviation Rule) that makes it illegal to record, or rebroadcast, or even listen to and act on information in a transmission not destined for you.

I'm not sure the governing body it is to be honest lol. I was just going off what was said in my Flight Radio book. How you're not allowed to disclose any information about radio transmissions.

Redundant rule really, there's already legislation around that.

It is a breach of the radio communications act, nothing to do with CAA or Airways.

The appropriate people have been alerted

Well it is if they gave permission for that transmission to be broadcast. They never want to come to the party, however, even though there's no real reason not to let people do it.

Well if we renamed the forum the NZFF-GCBS we'd be able to listen into anything ninja.gif ..... set of rules for some people and set of rules for others rolleyes.gif

You've been pulled into the hype around that legislation Ian. It doesn't allow wholesale snooping on people, just support for legally sanctioned warrants.

A problem they might have with enforcing that is?, is it that it being rebroadcast from offshore which is not governed by NZ law Hence they aren't breaking any laws in NZ, they may need to ask liveatc very nicely to remove the feeds instead of the usual threats from NZALPA to take them to court?.

Why do NZALPA care?

It is quite clearly a breach of the Radio Communications act Section 133A unless LiveATC has permission to re-broadcast the transmissions. Being VHF (and therefore of limited range) the interception is taking place locally and this is where the breach of the law is occurring.

NZALPA care because the breach of law affects their membership (being controllers and pilots). It is all to easy to take or to use communication exchanges out of context and therefore misrepresent a situation.

As for the GCSB amendment if it is enough to wind up the NZ law society then it should be reason enough for us all to be concerned. Honest John's assurances just don't cut the mustard.
The fact this whole thing is getting thru with the assistance of 2 dodgy MP's (1 without even a registered party at the time and himself not willing to disclose the contents of his emails claiming privacy) smacks of arrogance and the railroading through of unsound legislation.

Well I'm quite innocent in this, and as long as it's there I'll use it!
When I have an airport scenery to explore, I load up
  • My Favourite Helicopter
  • Real World time and season at the airport
  • Real World Weather
  • Live ATC

and go practice my hovering skills.
Real as it gets, and totally immersive.

The media already have scanner banks running, if anyone is going to misrepresent a situation will it be:

A. The guy listening in on a steam or

B. The guy who has the job of misrepresenting situations and already has access to the broadcasts anyway?
