Shift Manager, Senior Sergeant Steve Ambler said the pilot had to make an emergency landing and as he did so he crashed into another light aircraft parked to the side of the airstrip.
Mr Ambler said the Cessna was only metres off the ground and seconds into the take-off when the crash happened.

Which begs the question, since he was running off 25, why he didn't land straight ahead as trained instead of making the 180 turn back as reported.
Will be very interested to read the final incident report on this one.
AFAIK the Tecnam has been written off and the Cessna heavily damaged but repairable.

That's a bit unfortunate given how new those Tecnams are. I feel for the guy involved, would be terrible for something like this to happen on your first solo, regardless of whether it was caused by any fault of your own or not.

Digress a little here .. Steve , you don't happen to be driving a 747 around Christchurch this morning ?

Unfortunately not as I am no longer on the 747. It is a new Flight instructor doing circuit training. I think there is more tomorrow too and possibly Friday but I think that might be a back up day in case of weather.

Quite interesting to watch the procedure , have good photos of the 747 and brilliant video ... and no banging together or crashing into each other .
