Tauranga Jet

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Postby Bazza » Sun Nov 03, 2013 10:13 am

For the last week or so a "mystery" jet has been flying around Tauranga. By the time I hear it and rush outside, it's too far away for me to identify.

This morning I almost got a decent glimpse, looked like it had a high, blue tail, small to medium size. I'm picking it might be an Albatross...?

The frequency almost leads me to believe they may be doing scenic fly-overs for wealthy punters...?

It's not showing up in either Flightradar or Flightaware.

Anyone with insider knowledge..?

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'

Thank for the link Eddy , the Harvard , brings back memories when i flew in 7660 out off Wigram . That L-29 looks good in that scheme but suit the silver , i don't believe the type ever wore those clothes .

Brent, that L29 is a regular over my place, but would be good to see a Strikemaster again , the days of seeing a formation of four low level over Wigram ... so low in fact close your eyeball lids and you would still see them smile.gif

New Queenstown buzz-fighter jet rides
Experienced aviator Peter Meadows is running his high-end scenic and aerobatic flights from Queenstown Airport, after relocating from Tauranga and, latterly, Wanaka.

Seems he jumps around the country in search for the dollar , tell one thing ... I payed $240 dollars for a 30 minute ride in the Harvard in 2009 .. sure put the prices up .. about the same period cost me $220 to hire an PA140 out of Christchurch for an hour and a bit ..

Ahaha N39ED, I have heard some stories through involvement with the Patriots Jet Team about this L-39. biggrin.gif It was used once during Aviation Nation due to an issue with N439RH. And its previous owner was Ed Daley who was a former military test pilot and chief pilot of United Airlines hence the "ED" in its registration.
