Well, now when I give the precautionary landing briefing to my students and come to the last point - "don't try to take off again", I have a good video to show them...

I don't think I would have attempted that take off in those conditions even in the sim!

Don, I had a good friend stop in late morn midday with his nine year old grandson Jacob .. he kept on asking about FSX crash's .. most mature nine year old I'd have ever met .. flew the B-29 from Christchurch .. rather than the I no what i'm doing , he listened to every instruction to the stage were he was not sure about his abilities a decided to let me land the Superfort into Nelson .

He still asked about crash settings but this boy was so , a damn pleasure to show him the ropes ... Gary and Jacob will be back best three hours the young chap had .. think next time will be the Catalina. smile.gif

A friend was there helping the pilot to sort out the fuel problem he had.
According to him the TO was progressing reasonably well until a wave caught the port undercarriage. To me it still seemed like he was getting very close to the rocks at the Southern end.
I don't know why he didn't wait for the tide to go out or at least use more of the beach for the TO run...he started halfway down.
An $$$$$ lesson.
Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!
