Rumour floating around that the RNZAf is signing a contract tomorrow for new Texans (maybe they will be called Harvards in N Z like the Canadians do) replacing the CT 4 Es

Rumour's .. , weapons capable for the COIN help the troops is and would be possible or that type off training .. wonder why the change of heart .. Rumour's and politics caused the lost of any real tactical airborne strike .. talk has been on the table for a couple of years so again why the change of heart or maybe and would not be a bad idea have that company in Hamilton build .. Just a Rumour ..

THO I'd would be pleased ... its not April yet !

They are a good looking machine ... but these are designed to train fast jet jocks arent they? , we dont have any, and i would think there are enough civi schools that could bring potential C-130 / P-3 candidates up to speed for much less cost.
Dont get me wrong , Im all for a big Air Force , but this seems a bit odd in light of the current situation. I would have thought that money (if it happens) would have been better spent on really establishing a coastal defense (Air) unit in line with our neighbors.
Our (NZ) maritime defense is very important , both economically and strategically, but mainly economic.... so it makes sense to pump money in that direction.
We have the KingAirs ..... why not use them as the conversion platform ? if their good enough to solo a CT-4 (by RNZAF over trained standards) Im sure they can get their heads around (with ground school) a turbine/multi course, and if not ..... send them to Oz to do it (Another option)

Just my thoughts.

The King Airs and the CT-4s aren't the best to simulate low level flying (as per the Hercs and Orions in operational use) in NZ conditions plus the CT-4s are having structural (ie spar) problems...plus the Air Force is now a full glass and turboprop fleet which the CT-4s aren't.

Not a rumour deal is done 11 T-6s - first two this year.

Haha yep...I had to find the thread and see what I had planned for trainers...I glad they went with my recommendations laugh.gif ....one short though!

There's some pics (and some official announcement links) of what the scheme looks like over at Wings over NZ. looks pretty cool in an all black scheme.

14 Squadron is been reformed..wonder whether the Checkers will get to use these?

It seems there will be no initial training on other types - the Texans will be used as an "all through training" platform.
