It should at least have the noise lobbyists focus now on Queenstown and away from Auckland.

View this on the news last night, .. I thought how quick they wrapped the knuckles on the pilot who last year in the evening light - gets "hauled over the coals" and a year later they now say its fine, and that fella was still flying in daylight ! .... NOW THAT SUCKS !

It will be quite a different operation to the Pac Blue incident which was a non RNP departure and relied on a visual segment, from getting airborne until crossing Tollgate, prior to entering IMC.
Night ops will be subject to:
- RNP AR operations only
- Runway will be widened to 45m and have correct markings.
- Obstacle lights to be installed on Jones Hill and the Remarkables.
- The runway will also have lit Touch Down Limit Marks, abbreviated Approach Lights, Threshold, Runway End, Runway Edge and Starter Extension End Lights, Centreline Lights,
dual PAPI's (one on each side), associated Taxiway, Ramp and Apron Lighting
- There will be specfic ATC requirements on operators.
It will a staged introduction starting with 'twilight ops'. This all requires considerable infrastructure change and investment at Queenstown and it is not envisaged that ops will start before winter 2016. Expect airfares to go up to cover those costs.
The main issue is not the approach itself as there is essentially no difference in conducting an approach in IMC and one at night. It is the transition to visual flight from approach minima that is the issue and why such a big change in the runway environment is needed.

Noise, It dose not affect me, I was most happy when I rented a place, it directly on Christchurch,s flightpath Rwy29, pity I could not buy it , Its going to be interesting to see how long the locals take to these new changes, we have one NZFFer more than happy maybe to keep us up to speed when things get working and hear off the council complaints when they start trickling through.

What we need in Auckland is for a few visiting DC8's (JT3 powered), 737-200's (non hushkit) and BAC1-11's to show these muppets what aircraft noise really is!!

It's a bit murky down here today, cloud at about 1000ft and all lights are on including flashing lights at the threshold and she looks pretty bright from about 3km out.The extra night lights are going to make it look like Vegas.

Won't tell you publicly what I do for a job (something to do with complaints, noise, airport, drink heavily afterwards) but I can say, some people have no life and just have to complain about noisy aircraft, even when they being vectored down the coast to RW05 and not even going anywhere near their house. Bring on the noisey's and I'll give you some addresses to fly really low over!!!
