Are looking to buy a scanner for listening in on ATC - when spotting
Is this a good scanner? - seems to have good reviews on the net

I have a UNIDEN brand 10 years old now, looking at that, looks very simplistic and ideal , more than likely it has the same components, listen in is fun but you may find Nelson very quiet but if you head up to Auckland to across to Wellington you find it handy - the UNIDEN brand has an auto-scan so it picks up the tower then to the aircraft , then across to ground control and back to the next call .

I would simply go to your local comm's shop and just tell them what you want it for, look for the local UNIDEN stock shop, one addon recommendation is a clip-on earpiece, recommendation I'd probably go for what looking at, one thing you may want to no, you have to program the frequentcies and channels to each airport.

That looks as good as any for the price Dash ... Ive got a little Maycom AR-108 , i think it set me back $120 , its just a basic unit but works well.

This is the Uiden one. I've got one and generally happy with it though it does seem a bit hungry on the old battery.

If you have a laptop or mobile (if you are doing this while spotting) may I also suggest looking at
http://www.liveatc.net/EDIT: Disregard, as they don't seem to have New Zealand feeds...
