The arrival of the first Air NZ Rolls Royce powered 747-200B at Auckland airport under the command of Captain Barney Wyatt.
I was a young apprentice engineer at the time and saw it arrive. I was gob smacked at how much oil was needed to top the engines up. Never did find out what the issue was or the fix needed.

Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!

Coincidentally the 787-9 ZK-NZE made its maiden flight today.

From memory they were an 'oil burner' which was normal for the RB211-D4 type.
I seem to remember when testing them they would even burn some winkyy.gif
