NZFF

Hey lads. Just back from a long weekend on the north island central plateau with the whanau. We were there for skiing which we did do Monday/Tuesday but flagged it on the weekend due to the 500 million punters who were battling for space on the ski field. So what better to do than take a scenic flight with Mountain Air around the Tongariro national park. Was only a 15min loop but amazing how much territory you can cover in that time. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Always interesting to see RW pics of sim areas. A couple of years ago I was playing around in the sim, trying to land the Druine Turbulent on the service laneway beside The Chateau. Eventually managed it, too!

At least I use a host that is setup for Flightsim and lets you post images without all this carry on of no pics or just thumbnails

The last two were on PI as full-size 1920 x 1080 and I wanted to see how the forum dealt with them, but I fixed the code wrong, and it was simpler just to use the smaller pics.

Others have been having problems with postimg as well and Rob has posted a how to do with postimg.
For my 2 cents worth if you have to use a manual to post pics from a host find another host that uses strait forward copy and post an image without all the having to edit the code like photobucket to take the link back out.

Beautiful part of the country at this time of the year, that's for sure. And the weather helps!

The problem with Postimage stems from the way it is implemented here on NZFF. Postimage works the same as all the other image hosts, except when you click on the 'add image to post' link below. Since the current implementation is pretty useless, it needs to be fixed or removed.

As far as I'm aware, Postimage offers both full-sized and thumbnail addons for the forum, it's just a matter of installing the other one...

Oh for sure. TBH I wouldn't have gone if it wasnt that it was a perfectly still clear day. I get motion sickness like nothing which is why I stick to virtual flying usually

If you start a post in the forum, and click 'Add an image' provided you are adding an image from your computer, the forum software adds the tags and all is well. If your image is too big when it arrives at the displaying part of the forum software it is reduced to 1280 wide and a notice appears at the top of the pic to say so; you can then click on the image to get the full size version.
When you try to add to the NZFF PostImage account an image from your own PostImage account, it gets messy. There are too many URL and IMG tags added to the actual link which will show the pic, and PostImage defaults to a thumbnail - which if clicked should show the full size pic.
The previous NZFF forum software would not allow a third party software (e.g. PostImage) to modify the NZFF display, and that is as it should be.
One thing to understand is that while PostImage can reduce the size of an original, it cannot increase it...so if you start off with a 1024w pic, telling PI to increase it will only result in a thumbnail, which, if clicked, will enlarge to the original size.

Not quite, the forum software will always return a thumbnail, because it is set up that way. When the plugin is first installed, there's a choice of full-sized or thumbnail, but I suspect that the wrong one was chosen here.

Yeah, any light aircraft does that to me, it seems to be accumulative, by about 20 minutes I'm well and truly ready to get back on the ground. Luckily you can take a lot of photos in 20 minutes...

Hello Rob - I kept out of your discussion with Dave, to avoid confusion.
While researching possible replies, I did find that 'Hot link for forums (1)' , if selected in the NZFF account, would produce the desired result, but Hotlink (2) had a syntax error in the first tag.
If Dave uploads directly from his computer, the forum will display his original size - it can't upsize it.
I think the simplest way is to edit whatever size your screen is, to a pic 1280 wide, before uploading.

That's exactly what I do. I've now added a wee video showing the Postimage desktop application uploading in my previous post.
