A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

I saw a similar thread in another forum and it got me thinking - what is your top 5 favourite air show aircraft currently resident in NZ? Mine are:

Lavochkin LA-9 (fantasic sound and fast)
P-51 Mustang (I love Merlins)
The Polikarpovs (I'll bundle the monoplane in with the biplane as Ican't split them)
Hawker Hunter
Sopwith Camel

The Sea fury has gone unfortunately and so has the Spitfire :( There will be others Spits including a MKV for a while (heading overseas eventually) - see it at Omaka!. Other Spits under restoration in NZ including a Mk1X in Feilding, Mk X1V & Mk XV1 in Auckland so not all is lost.

The red checkers are technically competant but Ive seen them too many times to get excited over them now. Same as the Harvards.

Not in order:

1. Lavochkin La-9 - Ridiculously fast for a piston aircraft.

2. Hawker Hunter - Love not hearing it until it's passed, plus he needs a parachute to land at Ardmore!

3. Polikarpov I-16/I-153 - Ok so it's cheating to put them both in as one aircraft, but so what? :P When I was about 5 years old I used to love seeing them in books because they looked so strange, I never thought I'd ever see one fly, let alone a whole formation.

4. Yakovlev Yak-3 - Possibly the only prop plane in the country that can match the La-9 for speed. (I suppose the P-51 and Thunder Mustang as well) It has a smaller engine than it would have originally had in WWII, imagine how fast it would be with the original engine!

5. Sukhoi Su-29 - There is one of these at Ardmore, but I'm pretty sure it still has its Russian registration RA-3358K. I swear it defeats all laws of gravity and aerodynamics.

In no particular order,

The Spitty
Hercules
RNZAF 757
DC3

I'm also quite partial to the Red Checkers, the Iroquois and the Mustang, which could all be in the 5th place in that list.
