qantas are pulling out very slowly, i would suggest that jet star will only be flying main trunk routes, akl-wlg etc, espically since they are talking about using a320's, dosen't help me and my wife though, we want cheap fares to hawkes bay, guess that won't happen until someone flies to them, and i can't see that happening for a while, even though hawkes bay has a bigger residential catchments than say dunedin

Another misinterpretation of a journo's misintepretation of a comment made by Alan Joyce...
When they say things like "They're not ruling out putting them (A320's) to use in the New Zealand market"... it does not mean they are going to start domestic operations tomorrow...
in other news... did anyone notice the guy at the beginning of the story say "Jetstar will
Stoon start operating in NZ"... lol...

Sorry if I seemed overly defensive... my wife works at JetConnect... needless to say there are probably some v. concerned people out there after seeing headlines like "Budget airline Jetstar to operate in New Zealand"
When in actual fact its more like:
"We asked Jetstar if they were considering operating domestically in NZ and they said 'Well, we're always open to new ideas'... but headlines like 'Jetstar may be coming... sometime... but not in the near future... if at all' arent quite as eye-catching"

Phew. I try and fly Qantas whenever I can, if it became A320's then they can kiss my $$ goodbye, would have no choice but to fly Air NZ.

I know what you mean though, the media do like to warp the truth.
But it's some food for thought- could Jetstar could make the domestic routes profitable like they claim to have done on the Tasman?

Hard to say really... to be honest, I just don't think there is enough room in the NZ domestic market for more operators. I doubt there are the passenger numbers to support any more airlines...
and lets face it, if PacBlue or Jetstar do any NZ domestic flying, it will be NZAA, NZWN & NZCH (and maybe NZDN, NZQN and NZHN)... as they'll struggle to put their aircraft (most likely 73's and A320's) anywhere else... so all the regionals like Palmerston North, Napier, Rotorua, Nelson etc will be no better off.

Yep i think you're right HCP. I heard from a wise ol' source there's about enough room in the NZ market for about one and a half airlines...

Qantas Jet Connect would have to be my favourite airline in the world, and I have flowen a few
Singapore Airlines, Qantas, Air New Zealand, Air France, United, American, Delta, TED, America West, China airlines, Hainan Airlines, Cathay pacific, Air Tahiti, Air Pacific, Air Morea, ANA, Emirates, to name a few
But the aircraft jetconnect ( Qantas ) use in NZ ( the good ole mid gen 737's ) and thw whole airline I really like

i was told by someone awhile ago that anz only let origin pacific fly, i.e they let them fly the routes by not pricing them out, which is what happened later.
and from my time on the ground in napier, i know the 732 can come and go, and they can land a 733, but everything has to go right and they have to be empty, and even then they may not get out, if they ever get their a's into g's they may extend the runway to accommodate the 733 and a320, but until then napier will be stuck with anz. miss my refueling job
