Shalom and greetings all my pals,

I just bought Captain Sims 707-300 Series and 707-300 Cargo Series on sale for lousy NINE bucks per each yesterday.

YIKES YIKES the cockpit panels of those two model bases have operable button called Rain Repellent!! Wonder what does this button exactly do for my planes??

I am curious to know if there were lots of action by local New Zealand based or international based 707-300 series or 707-300 cargo only only WITHIN New Zealand skies that I can use new payware planes to recreate historic flights. Yes I know that Air New Zealand NEVER operated 707s preferring to use DC-8s and yes I know Qantas used 707-300 many times WITHIN New Zealand. Just wondering if there are any other airlines operating those two types of aircraft for passenger and cargo service only WITHIN New Zealand.

I am having hard time believing that there was not a single passenger 707 or cargo 707 action within New Zealand. So I guess the only way I can use Captain Sim 707-300 for recreation of real world historic flights for New Zealand is between Australia and New Zealand unless somebody know shorter route from any country to New Zealand using those types of plane.

It's not that strange really, it just wasn't a suitable aircraft at that point in time for anyone operating within NZ other than Air NZ and they bought DC-8s instead. The domestic and even international market in NZ in the '60s and '70s was tiny compared to recent history, there was essentially one domestic airline operating jets/turboprops and a handful of international ones flying in and out on a regular basis, none of whom operated internally within NZ.

Thanks for more explanations. I still find it strange especially what about cargo 707s? Also what about charter 707 flights serving tour groups or tour agencies??

Anyway, I checked Jetphoto and Airliners websites for any 707 activity in New Zealand and those sites showed TWA, Pan Am, and Saudi Arabian airline 707s in action in New Zealand apart from usual military versions of 707s. Surprised me that TWA had service to New Zealand!!

And not a single Qantas or British airline 707 action for New Zealand!!!!!! How is it possible that there was no Qantas or BOAC or British Airways 707 action to New Zealand??

I have been searching for any 707 action to New Zealand and found a strange one as seen on this newspaper report

Was there for that 707 freighter arrival in Wellington and went on board. Needed a 10kt headwind to land on rwy 16 Of course it was a brilliant Wellington day with a light southerly

Qantas did operate the 707 into Auckland back in the 70's back when the international terminal was part of what is now the domestic terminal.

So did BOAC and Pan Am

Quite a few overseas airlines flew 707’s in, this blog search has quite a comprehensive list of random ones and also the likes of American Airline, Air Hong Kong freighter version etc

Edit ok more Alpacas were on this flight. Seems odd when you see Alpacas all over the place now but guess they had to get here somehow

Photo is a likely clipping from the New Zealand Wings, a local NZ Aviation scene happenings magazine, that had this article from around 1989 - 1990 times. After a privately owned New Zealand Alpaca and Llama Research Company Ltd or NZAL Ltd was granted an import licence to import 300 Live Alpacas from Chile. The animals were quarantined in Chile for ninety days and then flown to New Zealand via Tahiti on a Private Chartered 707 Delivery Flight. Upon arrival into NZ the animals were then flown still within their cargo crates via a Helicopters NZ Bell 212 using a Heavy Lifting Sling underneath the Bell 212. As they were required by NZ Government Law to be quarantined on Matiu/Somes Island in the middle of Wellington Harbour for ninety days before being release to their new owners. Three blood samples are taken from each animal and the combined quarantine period is 10 times the incubation period of foot and mouth disease.

Photo likely from 1992 of the Florida West Boeing 707 with the AlpacaCorp shipment. This was the last of the major Chartered flight Live Animal freight shipments into New Zealand and controversial due to a false foot and mouth scare. The import permit for AlpacaCorp took four and a half years to be approved. With the import of 288 Alpacas and 40 Llamas at a cost of NZ$10 million, came from the Altiplano region of Northern Chile. The animals were flown to Christchurch on a chartered 707 from Florida Air West on the 13th January 1992 and then onto Wellington for a two month quarantine period at Matiu/Somes Island.

" On 13th January, 1992, quoting AHSNZ Aerolog, N710FW Boeing 707-321C of Florida West. From Pascua with a load of Alpacas, to Wellington after picking up pilot. Returned to Pascua on 14th (probably the longest direct flight from Wellington yet?). "

One of the Pilots of the above Florida West Boeing 707 Photo then made a comment saying that;

"We had a double crew for that flight and his crew flew from Arica Chile to Pascua. The second crew flew from Pascua to Christchurch then on to Wellington because Wellington was a special qualification airport and we had to pick up a pilot who would qualify us to fly into Wellington.

We rested, then my crew operated the flight from Wellington to Pascua (Easter Island) the next day. When I filed the flight plan I was told it was the longest flight from Wellington."

A couple of leased 707s came to Whenuapai in the mid to late 1990s. They were for Michael Jacksons tour. We got to look through the plane he flew in, including his bedroom, complete with his jackets hanging in the wardrobe.....didn't spot any gloves though!!. Because one of the 707s did not have an APU, we had to provide a ground start cart and crew to start the aircraft on departure.
